Cannabinoids Block Entry of Covid
A recent study, from the Journal of Natural Products,,have shown that cannabinoids from hemp can help in the fight against Covid, Here is what you need to know.

As a complement to vaccines, scientist found that cannabinoids from hemp can attach themselves to Covid proteins, possibly assisting to treat or prevent Covid-19 and its variants.
According to the study, due to Covid-19, more than 272 million people have been infected, including over 5.3 million deaths. There are current vaccines, but due to the rate of infection and constant mutations Covid is likely to threaten us for years to come. In order to prevent the rapid trajectory of Covid, something more than the vaccine is needed.
Covid has protein spikes around its outer surface, making it real easy for those spikes to attach to human cells. When Covid comes in contact with a human’s ACE2 enzymes, found primarily in the lungs, kidneys, arteries, heart, and intestines, Covid is able to morph and attach itself to the human.
In attempt to stop the virus, scientist in this study turned to natural ingredients, as nature continues to be a source for unique chemical structures and compounds. For this research, the scientist incubated Covid’s protein spikes with a mixture of botanical extracts to see any of then were effective in fighting Covid. They gathered hemp extracts and isolates from the Global Hemp Innovation Center in Oregon for this research.
Digging deeper they looked for hemp ligands, molecules that would irreversibly bind to the Covid proteins. They found that CBDA (Cannabidolic Acid),THCA-A (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid) and CBGA (Cannabigerolic Acid) blocked infection of human cells from Covid’s spike proteins. CBGA worked the best with THCA-A following close behind.
This may mean that certain cannabis-derived preparations, given in the right amount, might help people fight off Covid-19. However, it’s important to note that just smoking cannabis will not ward off Covid, When the THC-A, CBD-A, and CBG-A are heated (as with the case with smoking), they morph into other cannabinoids that do little to fight off Covid. This means that although vape carts, concentrates, and flower may assist with other ailments, they won’t do much to battle Covid.
